Yeshiva Shavei Hevron marks its 32nd  Year

Yeshiva Shavei Hevron is celebrating the 32nd year since its establishment!

In the year 1982, about 50 years after the 1929 Arab uprisings in which the Arabs sought to uproot the Jews permanently from Hevron, the voice of Torah was returned to the streets of the City of Our Forefathers.

25 years ago, Rabbi Moshe Bleicher Shlit"a, founded the yeshiva at Beit Romano, situated in the heart of the City of our Forefathers with only 10 students. Since then, the Yeshiva has grown and flourished despite many difficulties and obstacles. 250 yeshiva students, of which about 70 are avrechim , learn Torah diligently in close proximity to the Cave of the Machpela.

The Yeshiva has been very fruitful. 1000 students have passed through its walls and have gone on to become heads of other yeshivas, Torah scholars and educators, officers in the Israeli army and members of various other professions.

These times are difficult in general for the Jewish People. It is apparent that we are in the process of a value crisis, which in turn, causes a settlement crisis as well as a security crisis. This is the time to strengthen our stronghold on the city where our forefathers lived and called out the name of G-d.

We must recognize the importance of Hevron and t gain courage and confidence like Caleb ben Yefuneh who went to pray at the graves of our Forefathers in order to be saved from the advice of the spies.

It is written by Rabbi Yakov Koli z"l in "Me'Am Loez" about Parshat Chayeii Sarah,

"And all of this is written in order to teach us the burial place of our fathers and mothers' so that we will put our thoughts to these people who lived in the Holy Land, and ……. of course, all Jews are required to try and maintain this holy place as much as we can."

This is the time to build a bond with Hevron, to strengthen the voice of Torah, and be a partner in the great mitzvah of Torah study and the settlement of the Land of Israel.

With blessing,

Yeshiva Shavei Hevron
